File Transfer Protocol

FTP means File Transfer Protocol. This protocol is used to transfer files from your computer’s hard drive to a remote server, such as any web hosting server. You would use FTP to upload (or send) your web page files (contents) you make on your computer to your web space provided by any web hosting company.

To use FTP, you will need an FTP program. There are many out there such as CuteFTP, SmartFTP, and FileZilla. You will need to set up the FTP program with your domain’s FTP host name, username and password. This information is sent to you by your web host. Once you have your FTP program set up, you can then upload files to your web space so that the public can view your web site.
